Tyndall Air Force Base (AFB) Environmental Commitment Statement

1. Team Tyndall is fully committed to minimizing the impacts of our operations on the environment and maintaining our excellent reputation for environmental stewardship. Our goal is to sustain mission capability while integrating sound environmental practices throughout Team

Tyndall's operations. To meet this environmental commitment, all base personnel, including active duty, civilians, contractors, tenants, and visitors, must follow our Environmental

Commitment Statement as described below.

2. Tyndall's environmental commitment statement can be described with the acronym PRIDE:

a. Promote Environmental Management System (EMS) awareness through training

b. Recycle, prevent pollution, and conserve natural resources

c. Identify areas for continuous improvement

d. Develop open communication with the local community

e. Ensure compliance with all environmental laws and regulations

3. Protecting the environment at Tyndall AFB is everyone's job regardless of position, rank, salary or experience. Team Tyndall's Environmental, Safety, and Occupational Health Council is dedicated to providing leadership required to achieve the principles of this statement.

Together we can execute our mission successfully while minimizing the effects of our operations on the environment. Tynda!Ps EMS is in accordance with Air Force Instruction 32-7001,

Environmental Management.

The Recycling Center is in charge of the recycling for the base. 24 hour recycling drop off areas are located behind the Class VI Shoppett and in front of Hager 3.

The following materials are picked up by the Recycling Center:

-White/Mixed Paper
-Newspaper
-Shredded Paper (Must be bagged)
-Computer Paper (no carbon)
-Cardboard
-Books (Paperback), Manuals, Magazines
-Aluminum Cans

What can be turned in and where:

-Scrap Metal (Bldg. 6035)
-Metal Drums ("Triple Rinsed" if contained hazardous material)
-Lead-acid Batteries (Drop off at Bldg. 6035)
-Recyclables from home (Drop off at the 24 hour locations or place in cardboard trailers)
-Toner Cartridges (Drop off at Bldg. 421 Rm. 104)

What cannot be turned in:

-Serviceable/Useable Metal Furniture (Note: No item having reuse value can be accepted at the Recycling Center)
-Wooden Furniture
-Televisions/Audio Video Equipment
-Computer/Electronics Equipment
-Municipal Trash

Every year the 325th Civil Engineering Squadron hosts two recycling events:

Earth Day - April 22: The 325th CES partner with one of the local schools and the Child Development Center for Earth Day. They talk to students, teach them about the issues and have them participate in a poster contest and present prizes to the contest winners. They then set up outside of the Commissary and pass out literature while talking to base population about environmental issues.

America Recycles Day - Nov. 15: For Recycling Day the 325th CES spend the week prior dumpster diving at every dumpster on base. We remove, weigh and document the amount of recyclables we remove from the dumpsters. We also visit one of the local elementary schools and sponsor a class contest with the winning classes getting a trip to the recycling center on base and natural resources followed by a pizza party.
