Back to school season is here, and that means sharing the roads with buses and pedestrians.

The Tyndall Air Force Base safety office wants to inform drivers on the importance of safe driving on base and around schools.

“The most important thing is respecting speed limits and slowing down around school zones,” said Senior Airman Ingrid Ramirez, 325th Fighter Wing occupational safety technician.

School buses do not currently enter Tyndall to bring children to school due to the impact of Hurricane Michael.

Buses may still impact commutes to and from base and it is important to be aware of the change in traffic patterns.

“The major thing is respecting bus drivers,” said Staff Sgt. Cody Sherman, 325th Fighter Wing non-commissioned officer in charge of safety.

Not stopping for a school bus while lights are flashing is against the law, and Sherman said it is a national issue that puts children at risk.

Drivers should not expect any major changes to commute times, but allowing extra time for travel is always advised.
