6/28/2012 - TYNDALL AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. -- Dylan Brown, 17, will be representing Raptor Lanes and the state of Florida in the 2012 U.S. Bowling Congress Junior Gold championships in Indianapolis, Ind., July 14 to 20.
Dylan is the son of Troy Brown, 325th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron executive assistant, and Tech. Sgt. Denise Brown, 325th Medical Support Squadron noncommissioned officer in charge of the pharmacy support element.
"We were extremely ecstatic and overjoyed for him," his parents said. "We are very confident that he will do well."
On Feb. 25, he bowled his first sanction 300 game and an 801 series. Since then, he has bowled a total of four perfect games and won the 2012 Panama City Bowler of the Year.
In April, he qualified first in the boys scratch division at the 2012 Florida Pepsi Tournament.
Dylan has been bowling for 11 years, and began bowling in state tournaments in 2003.
"My parents bowl and my dad is a bronze-level certified coach," said Dylan. "He pretty much taught me everything there is to know about bowling."
Though he will be competing on a national level this summer, bowling didn't come easy for Dylan.
"It takes a lot of practice to become actually good," Dylan said. "Practice definitely makes perfect, once you get the key points down it gets a lot easier."
According to USBC officials, the USBC Junior Gold championships will offer more than $100,000 in scholarships. Youth bowlers will also be competing for national titles and spots on the Junior Team USA.
"I think I will do fantastic," said Dylan. "I have to be confident and stay humble."
Bowling will always be a passion, Dylan explained. "I love the sport and the competition."
After graduation from high school, Dylan plans to attend college.
"As a coach and father, you can only wish the best for him," said Troy. |
