8/22/2012 - TYNDALL AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. -- For those that are not as big of a weather geek as I am, there are currently a few tropical systems spinning up in the Atlantic Ocean. If predictions are correct, by Sunday there could be a category II hurricane, named Isaac, sitting just south of Cuba.
Having grown up in this part of country, I learned at a very young age it is not a matter of "if" a hurricane will hit this area, but "when" will one hit. That is not meant to scare anyone, but just a factor of where we live. That stated, now is the time to make sure you are prepared for what to do in the event a hurricane is projected into our neighborhood. Hopefully by now, you and your family have already given some thought to this, but in case you have not, the following link will take you to the Tyndall Hurricane Page http://www.tyndall.af.mil/library/tyndallhurricanepage.asp.
On the Tyndall Hurricane Page there is a "Hurricane Preparedness Briefing," put together by the 325th Civil Engineer Squadron readiness and emergency management flight, which is an excellent guide on how to prepare, and what to include in emergency kits for you and your family. The briefing can be accessed from your home computer, and I ask that you please share and review it with your family members as there may be a time when you are on a temporary duty assignment or gone and they are forced to act.
In addition, there is a classroom briefing offered tomorrow by the 325th CES Readiness & Emergency Management Flight at 1 p.m. in building 909 that you and your family are welcome to attend.
Hurricanes are a very real part of living on the Gulf Coast, and we should always be prepared for what to do when one approaches. Supervisors, now is the time to check with those that you supervise to make sure they have a plan and are ready.
