10/9/2012 - TYNDALL AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. -- The annual Combined Federal Campaign is scheduled to kick-off Oct. 11 and will run through Nov. 18.
"The Combined Federal Campaign is the only authorized solicitation of federal employees in their workplaces on behalf of approved charitable organizations," said 2nd Lt. Preston Smith, 325th Maintenance Squadron assistant munitions flight commander and CFC project manager. "The CFC began in the early 1960's to coordinate the fundraising efforts of various charitable organizations so that the federal donor would only be solicited once in the workplace and have the opportunity to make charitable contributions through payroll deduction. This year is the 51st anniversary of the CFC."
According to the CFC website, the program is the world's largest and most successful annual workplace charity campaign, with more than 200 CFC campaigns throughout the country and internationally to help to raise millions of dollars each year. Pledges made by federal civilian, postal and military donors during the campaign season, Sept.1 to Dec. 15, support eligible non-profit organizations that provide health and human service benefits throughout the world.
"The goal for the 2012 campaign is to contact 100 percent of the federal employees that work on Tyndall and provide them with information and the opportunity to make a donation to a participating charity, if they wish to do so," said Lieutenant Smith. "More information can be found by contacting myself and Master Sgt. Bruce Boling, the Tyndall campaign points of contact; their designated unit representatives; or by visiting the campaign website."
The campaign website is www.northwestfloridacfc.org.
The donation process is simple.
Each year a list of participating local, national, & international charities is published, also available online at www.northwestfloridacfc.org, that includes their organization's name, statement of purpose, and administrative and fundraising expense rate.
"Those wishing to donate can select one or more of the listed charities and designate the amount they want to give to each one," Lieutenant Smith said. "Donations not designated to specific charities are considered undesignated gifts and are distributed among all organizations in proportion to their pledges. Donations are made by filling out the donation slip. Individuals can give by payroll deduction, in which a specified amount is deducted automatically from each month's pay, or by making a one-time contribution by cash or check."
Both the charity listing and the donation slips can be acquired through your unit's CFC representative.
"You should keep a copy of your pledge form, as well as your pay statements, if you made a payroll deduction contribution, as a receipt of your pledge," said Lieutenant Smith. "A federal employee, who makes a one-time contribution, by cash, check, or money order, must maintain a bank record and a copy of the pledge form to show the name of the organizations contributed to, the date of the contribution, and the amount of the contribution."
There will also be several events planned throughout the campaign to raise money.
The campaign Kickoff & Charity Fair is 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 11 at Horizons Community Center. There will be booths from local area charities, door prizes, free pizza and drinks, while supplies last.
There will also be a Tynman Tri/Duathlon 7:30 a.m. Oct. 13 at the Pier on Eagle Drive in Wood Manor base housing. It will consist of a 0.3-mile swim, 12-mile bike, and 3.1-mile run. Registration is available on Active.com and the deadline is Oct. 10, unless the registration is by mail, then the deadline is Oct. 5. The mail-in forms are located at the fitness center. Registration will also be available the day of the race.
Additionally, there will be a 5K Fun Run Oct. 26, golf tournament Nov. 2 at Pelican Point Golf Course and a bowling tournament Nov. 14 at Raptor Lanes Bowling Alley.
