7-digit phone numbers in effect

Tyndall is implementing a new seven-digit intrabase calling plan as a part of an Air Force mandate to standardize all new and existing telephone systems.

Off-base, long-distance commercial and Defense Switched Network dialing are not affected. The changes will also not affect access to the base voice mail system.

Customers will have to dial 283-XXXX instead of 3-XXXX, or 282-XXXX instead of 2-XXXX, when making calls to base extensions. Phones with customer programmable speed-dials, will need to be reprogrammed to accommodate the new dialing plan.

The mandated transition date is Oct. 1. Customers will be able to continue to dial either five-digits or seven-digits until this date; however, it is highly recommended that customers begin using the seven-digit format at this time.
