Whenever Tyndall opens its doors to the public, it's a huge party; and soon one that touts the flavor and hospitality of Germany is coming.

From 4 - 11 p.m. Sept. 18, get ready for a great family night out, open to Tyndall and the public, as the 325th Force Support Squadron hosts the annual Oktoberfest.

"Oktoberfest is a community happening where everyone can come together and relax and get to know each other - a way to get together and have fun," said Wendy Poppell, this year's event organizer. "Oktoberfest is huge in Germany, it is a six week festival that starts in Mid-September, but we are giving people a little flavor, a little touch of it."

This year promises to be the best yet, with entertainment such as Steve Wiggins, a popular local band, and Europa, an authentic German band from Orlando, FL.

Hofbrauhaus, a Pier Park restaurant, is the food vendor this year, bringing authentic German cuisine to the festival.

All of the Tyndall booster clubs have also been invited out to sell food, drinks and other wares.

Arts and Crafts vendors from all over the city will be there as well.

Probably the most anticipated part of the night is the annual Car Show, showcasing some of the most interesting cars from around town.

"See unique vehicles from base population and downtown car clubs. These include classics, antiques hotrods muscle cars, low-riders, tuners, and motorcycles," said Brad Reavis, manager of the Tyndall Arts and Crafts Center.

Car Show registration starts at 3 p.m. and runs until 7 p.m. with door prize drawings at 7:15 p.m.

"Last year every vehicle on display took home a door prize, this year we are looking at even bigger and better prizes than last year," Mr. Reavis said. "If you have a special vehicle that you would like to share with others, just come on down and join the fun!"
Games will also be a big part of the event including the ever-popular, Bratwurst Eating Contest.

Sign-ups for the Bratwurst Eating Contest are the day before so enough brats will be ready. Contestants will have 8 minutes to eat as many as they can. Six bratwursts are served up per plate.

"I challenge everyone who thinks they can beat me - to this bratwurst eating contest," said 1st Lt. Kevin Lawracy, reigning champion. "I am quite sure I will be walking away with the prize!"

Other games include the traditional water-balloon race, three legged race and pumpkin ring toss and more. Prizes will be awarded to the winners.

The vet clinic will also be putting on a Dog Parade, and will be having a contest with three categories: Cutest, Best Trick, and Best Costume. Prizes will be awarded for the first place winners.

Those who are interested in entering, may sign up by 4 p.m. the night of the event.
The Vet Clinic will also be handing out pet hurricane kits for the first 30 people to stop by their tent.
