The 325th Operations Group recognizes an Airman for his outstanding performance in supporting Tyndall pilots in their mission of training and projecting unrivaled combat air power.

Airman 1st Class Donvin Farquharson is an aircrew flight equipment technician for the 325th Operations Support Squadron. His job is to ensure that all flight and safety equipment are in perfect working order, he makes sure Airmen have the supplies necessary for any situation. Farquharson was shadowed by the 325th Fighter Wing commander, Col. Michael Hernandez.

“I think my job is way above awesome I get a chance to maintain and save someone’s life every day,” Farquharson said. “I don’t wear the gear myself so it’s great to get feedback on how well we do our job. At the end of the day I want to know I’ve done everything to make our pilots safe and comfortable enough to do their jobs with maximum lethality.”

Farquharson’s supervisor, Tech. Sgt. Phillip Boyd, said the young Airman is always looking for ways to improve the mission and put pilots’ safety first while performing AFE duties.

“He always has a positive problem solving attitude. He has been instrumental in the success in the AFE program and key to our FY16 Air Combat Command large AFE program of the year award. Farquharson is the model of what today’s Airman should be and I am proud to work with him daily.”

Some of Farquharson’s achievements include supporting Sentry Savannah 16-2 by maintaining $30,000 worth of aircrew flight equipment. He was also a key member of the fuel tank harness build-up team, an initiative that created fuel tank harnesses and saved $12,000. Outside of work, he has volunteered for the OSS Booster Club and raised $8,300 and enabled 37 squadron morale building events as a result.

Despite the professional accolades he has conquered, Farquharson will soon face a far greater hurtle; he and his wife are expecting twins soon.

“It feels great,” Farquharson said. “My wife and I are excited to be parents, I can’t wait to be a father of two on the first try. It’s a rare and awesome blessing.”

He said he’d like to go somewhere like Alaska or Hawaii in the future. He said he’d also like to further his education.

“I joined to travel and be a part of something bigger than myself, and the more I stay, the more I want to go to school and get a degree,” Farquharson said. “Hopefully someday I can commission in the Air Force.”
