Senior NCO Induction Ceremony: Leadership through Service

TYNDALL AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. -- It's interesting that a military branch, such as the Air Force, is called a service.  It cannot be coincidental then that military members are called to service or to serve.  Our profession is full of service.  From the day we enter basic training, we begin to place service before self, and we continue to become more and more committed to this ideal as we progress through our careers.    

Eventually, we develop from followers, a role that is synonymous with serving others, to leader. 

 

Before Airmen attend lessons on leadership, they might think of a leader as someone who others work for, and thus, serve.  But, in truth, an Air Force leader is also a servant.  Merriam-Webster.com defines a servant as a person who is devoted to or guided by something.  An Air Force leader is one who is devoted to the development of his or her people and to the accomplishment of a mission, guided by the desire to build and defend a strong nation.  When an Airman becomes a senior noncommissioned officer, he or she commits to a higher level of service to our nation by taking on greater levels of responsibility, by taking on a larger piece of the mission and by influencing and developing more Airmen.

 

On Sept. 5, the Tyndall Top 3 will celebrate the concept of "Leadership through Service" as we induct our newest master sergeants into the Senior NCO Corps.  We are very excited to announce that our guest speaker will be Retired Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force Robert D. Gaylor, a man who, even in retirement, continues to serve the Air Force by providing leadership lessons to our Airmen. 

 

We welcome anyone with base access to celebrate this significant occasion with us. 

 

The event will take place at Horizon's Community Center.  Social hour begins at 6:30 p.m. and the induction begins at 7 p.m.  Attire for the evening is mess dress or semi-formal. 

 

Dinner options include:

 

*Sliced London broil au jus with roasted new potatoes and chef's vegetables

*Roasted stuffed chicken breast with mushroom gravy, rice pilaf and chef's vegetables

*Vegetarian lasagna

 

All choices are $21 for club members or $23 for non-members.
