801st RED HORSE Training Squadron (801 RHTS) develops and delivers integrated, realistic training and exercises for combat support teams. The squadron operates the Silver Flag Exercise Site on Tyndall Air Force Base, Fla., which is the Air Force's largest Agile Combat Support training location. The courses and readiness exercises executed by 801 RHTS prepare Total Force Airmen for contingency operations and worldwide deployments. Functional communities currently supported consist of Civil Engineering, Contracting, Financial Management, Force Support, Ground Transportation, and Manpower. The squadron trains more than 4,500 personnel each year.
SILVER FLAG TYNDALL (SF-T) is the largest readiness event executed by 801 RHTS. SF-T is integrated Agile Combat Support training exercise in which teams accomplish tasks necessary to establish, operate, and recover an airbase as part of an Expeditionary Airbase (XAB) Force Element or an associated Demand Force Team (DFT).
801 RHTS executes other readiness events including Runway Damage Repair and Emergency Airfield Lighting System training, the Expeditionary Manpower Management Course, Officer Field Experience for Civil Engineer initial skills training, and Civil Air Patrol encampments. In 2022, the squadron hosted Readiness Challenge VIII-a civil engineer contingency skills competition-and restored the event after a 22-year hiatus. 801 RHTS also hosts combat support teams for unit-requested training and access to the Silver Flag Exercise Site.
801 RHTS was activated on April 26, 2022. Prior to its activation, the unit was designated Detachment 1, 823d RED HORSE Squadron, and it has operated at Tyndall Air Force Base since 1993. The unit's heritage extends back to the 1970s with its predecessor units executing Silver Flag at Eglin Air Force Base, Fla. and Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio.
