Tyndall invests in quality of life improvements for 2017

Over an estimated $1 million worth of Quality of Life investments are starting to pay off across the installation as living areas receive updates and the mission gets new tools for the job.

While some investments are not readily visible, there are over 20 projects that Tyndall Airmen and residents will notice immediately.

“Our Air Force is known around the world for our great quality of life programs,” said Chief Master Sgt. Craig V. Williams, 325th Fighter Wing command chief. “For almost 70 years we have taken care of our Airman and their families by constantly assessing, investing and reinvesting in mission capabilities and ourselves as American Airmen, wingman, warriors and leaders.”

Airmen on the flightline largely make the Tyndall mission a reality every day in all weather conditions.  Average heat index temperatures can reach over 100 degrees in the summer here, and direct sunlight can quickly create an environment prone to heat related injuries and also cause damage to the unique low observable coating on the F-22 Raptor.

Two investments aimed at reducing these mission barriers are new air conditioning units for the aircrew transportation trucks, also known as “Bread Trucks,” and the installation of new sunshades to protect aircraft. Aircraft maintainers will also see new tools in their inventories as part of the investment projects.

One of the hottest locations on the flightline is the low observability painting facility. The use of wearable cooling vests for Airmen who apply low observable paint coatings to F-22s will be able to withstand the traditionally hot and humid Florida summers for longer periods of time.

“The 325th Fighter Wing mission is to train and project unrivaled combat air power,” Williams said. “The only way we can guarantee our success is to continually assess and replace equipment and ensure our Airmen are the best at what they do.”

Tyndall dormitories recently received new carpet, mattresses, recliners and dayroom televisions. The 325th Security Forces Squadron will receive a new portable guard post unit with internal electrical utilities to replace current facilities during renovation projects for the installation entry and exit gates. The 325th Civil Engineer Squadron Explosive Ordnance Disposal flight received a new multi-purpose vehicle that will enhance their ability to support the Tyndall mission.

Tyndall residents will also notice big changes at the base bowling alley with a renovated eatery, new furniture, entertainment systems and plans for future improvements. Parents will see new carpeting in the Child Development Center and similar renovations in the Airmen and Family Readiness Center.

Other separate projects, such as the extensive renovations at the Tyndall Commissary, will also improve quality of life for the Tyndall community.

“There is a direct link between quality of life and quality of work,” Williams said. “Investing in the social wellbeing of our community is not only important, but the right thing to do.”
