The Office of the Staff Judge Advocate at Tyndall Air Force Base recently raised the bar during the second part of an Article 6 Inspection that clearly set them apart as the example of excellence.

The Article 6 Inspection is a two-part system that enables the Air Force Judge Advocate General to evaluate installation staff judge advocate offices and the services they provide to commanders and other customers.

"Our office received an overall excellent rating from the inspection team," said Lt. Col. Sondra B. Nensala 325th Fighter Wing staff judge advocate.

The inspection serves as a tool to ensure compliance and standardization with established legal procedures and service quality throughout the Air Force.

During an Article 6 Part II inspection, the inspection team focused on the Air Force Judge Advocate General’s Corps mission readiness, Air Force legal readiness and special interest areas.

"Chief Master Sgt. Bo Stout, the senior paralegal manager to the judge advocate general praised our office as the best he had seen in his time as a paralegal," Nensala said. "Maj. Gen. Jeffery Rockwell, the deputy judge advocate general, also hailed the inspection as the best he has experienced in his time as the DJAG."

Mission readiness can include a variety of military and support personnel, government facilities, resources, unit operational readiness for deployment, and current affairs concerning the military-legal atmosphere.

"Our staff provided briefings to the inspection leads," said Maj. Nora C. Rule, 325th Fighter Wing deputy staff judge advocate. "The focus was on issues ranging from ethics, service contracts and legal assistance to military justice and courts-martial."

The Tyndall legal office offers Tyndall Airmen the opportunity to maintain a higher level of readiness for deployments, TDYs and permanent change of station assignments with capabilities such as fully executed wills and re-occurring personal property claims briefings to help Airmen during a relocation.

The legal office provides advice and counsel to decision-makers at all levels of command to provide recommendations and evaluate courses of action to resolve issues affecting the Tyndall mission, unit morale and good order and discipline.

"Everyone pitches in to ensure the mission is accomplished and our Airmen get high quality legal service from our office," Rule said. "Our civil law team and military justice section can provide a wide variety of services to help take care of Team Tyndall so they can focus on the mission."

Tyndall Airmen can utilize other support programs offered through the legal office such as income tax assistance, legal claims, notary services, will preparation and powers of attorney, to name a few.

"Providing comprehensive and timely legal advice to commanders and clients is truly a team effort. Everyone pitches in to ensure that the mission is accomplished, which in turn enhances Tyndall's mission readiness," Nensala said.
