The free annual Oktoberfest event will be held at Tyndall’s Heritage Park from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 27, as a way to promote welfare, boost morale and provide recreation to the base.

The event is free to attend and will be filled with family-fun activities. Attendees will be able to purchase food and beverages from a variety of booths and enjoy games, pony rides for children, a K9 demonstration and competitions.

“It’s a big event for everyone to come and have fun. It will be a great experience for Airmen, their families and everyone who shows up,” said Tashara McKinzycole, 325th Force Support Squadron marketing director. “It builds comradery between different squadrons, families, contractors, civilians and the base community. This is a time for everybody to come together, meet new people and network.”

This year the event will be a little different. The event will be held earlier in the day than previous years to provide maintenance and security forces members on swing shifts the opportunity to take part in the Oktoberfest spirit and amenities.

“We want to make sure we take care of every Airman,” said McKinzycole.

The marketing office recommends the following, in alignment with taking care of Team Tyndall and for a better experience:

  • Bring the following: bug spray, water bottles (water will be provided via water buffalos), sunblock and snacks.
  • Watch out for alligators, and be aware of your surroundings.
  • There will be pop-up tents for shading, but sun shades and umbrellas are welcomed.
  • Oktoberfest will be around water and bathing wear is encouraged.

The bratwurst eating contest, bull-riding contest, and relay and kayak races will be some of the biggest attractions.

“Team Tyndall will get to show off their squadron spirit and have competitive fun,” said McKinzycole. “I challenge everyone to bring their squadron spirit to see what squadron has the most.”

The marketing office loves this event and encourages everyone to get a taste of what the event has to offer.

“We love Oktoberfest! Woo,” said Lyndsey Truman, 325th FSS marketing clerk with much excitement.

“This is one of the biggest family events on base and if you haven’t been to one you’ve been missing out,” she added. “If you’re looking for something fun to do with the family, or just looking to have a great time, this is an event worth attending.”
