TYNDALL AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. -- Officers from Tyndall Air Force Base spoke to Reserve Officer Training Candidate cadets from different Florida colleges to speak on what it is like to be in the Air Force recently.
The mentoring sessions took place at University of West Florida Nov. 2 and Florida State University Nov. 9. The goal of both college visits was to let cadets know what officer career-fields are like and what to expect from the Air Force lifestyle.
“I could see how eager the cadets are when they’re listening to our visitors,” said Lt. Col. Scott Lamont, Air Force ROTC UWF detachment commander. “They are excited for their futures and are formulating decisions about what they want to become as a result of their discussions with the officers. They got to understand what the Air Force does big picture, as well as, how each AFSC fits in together. The briefers that came did a great job of explaining their role in the Air Force mission.”
The officers who briefed came from multiple career-fields, to include engineering, contracting, air battle managers, maintenance, pilots, force support and the chaplain field. This was to offer the ROTC cadets a broad spectrum of experience and expertise to pull from when asking questions about their future in the Air Force.
These cadets were able to get firsthand knowledge on career fields they already qualified for and ones they were thinking of joining.
“The career day was a great way to talk with the future of our Air Force,” said Capt. Jacob Petter, 325th Comptroller Squadron financial analysis flight commander. “I could tell they are highly motivated and excited to become active duty members. It was fun trying to think back to what I was like as a college student getting ready to commission. Hopefully we helped answer some of their questions and better prepare them for life as officers.”
Tyndall participates in events like these to benefit cadets and the officers themselves. The cadets are able to learn from those with experience while the officers gain the opportunity to foster the future leadership of the Air Force.
