TYNDALL AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. -- Second generation Wi-Fi has been installed in buildings at Tyndall Air Force Base.
The state-of-the-art Wi-Fi equipment has been installed and is fully operational in 12 buildings, with three more slated to be completed soon after the hurricane recovery mold remediation is finished. 191 brand new Wi-Fi access points will be available throughout the 15 buildings when the project is completed.
Tyndall AFB is the first base in the entire Air Force to have the new “Aruba 325” access points, as opposed to the old 100-series. The difference between the older series access points and the newer models is an increased capacity for users, range and bandwidth.
Once the $471K project is completed, Tyndall’s communication infrastructure will be able to have a greater concurrent user capacity without losing as much bandwidth.
Before Hurricane Michael hit the project was still planned, but the process was expedited in the recovery efforts to ensure all Tyndall Airmen had adequate communication capabilities.
