TYNDALL AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. -- The Defense Health Agency director visited Tyndall Air Force Base June 5, 2019, to talk to medical members about the changes the DHA will be making throughout the Department of Defense.
Navy Vice Adm. Raquel Bono has visited multiple military installations to host town halls discussing the changes and answer any questions service members have.
DHA took over administration and management of eight military treatment facilities on the East coast on Oct. 1, 2018. The remaining facilities in the continental Unites States, which includes Tyndall, will come under DHA's authority on Oct. 1, 2019. MTFs in overseas locations will transition last.
During her visit, she applauded the Tyndall medical Airmen who have endured the challenges faced because of Hurricane Michael.
"What is more impactful than witnessing the physical damage that remains from Hurricane Michael is seeing how resilient our military personnel are, particularly our medical teams," Bono said. "Their dedication to their patients never wavered."
The end goal for the DoD switching over administration to DHA is to have a more integrated, efficient and effective system of readiness and health.
"The DHA will continue to ensure our warfighters have access to quality care, so they remain mission ready,” Bono said.
During her visit, Bono talked with the 325th Medical Group leadership about their teamwork with civilian partners before and after the storm.
"I'm extremely proud of the entire military medical community in the Panhandle who, with their civilian partners, showed what's possible when you work together toward a common goal,” Bono said.
Patients should not expect changes to their medical care during the transition periods.
