On Nov. 21, Airmen from Tyndall Air Force Base volunteered during a Thanksgiving lunch for students at Northside Elementary School in Panama City, Florida.

Team Tyndall members helped serve food and also engaged with children whose families were not able to attend the event.

“It’s amazing,” said Amy Harvey, Northside Elementary School principal. “With all that parents are dealing with post Hurricane Michael, a lot weren’t able to be here today. It means a lot for Airmen to come sit with children without parents present. It’s really uplifting.”

Airmen chose to participate in the event for a variety of reasons.

“I wanted to come out and be a part of this event so I can be more involved with the community, show comradery with my team, and [interact with] different perspectives during the holiday season,” said Staff Sgt. Zachary Perez, 101st Air and Space Operations Group intelligence analyst.

This volunteer opportunity also allowed individuals to engage with the local community members.

“Events like these strengthen ties between the base and the community by showing that Tyndall offers support to the community during the holiday season as well as during times of crisis,” said Perez, “Especially after Hurricane Michael, it is important to show that Tyndall is here.”

Team Tyndall members donate hundreds of hours of volunteer work each year to help support the local community.
