Hurricane season kicks off June 1, and the 325th Civil Engineer Squadron Emergency Management Flight wants to ensure Team Tyndall is prepared.

The unit will set up booths in the main plaza outside the Base Exchange May 28 through May 31.

During Hurricane Preparedness Week, a blood drive is scheduled May 30 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the BX parking lot.

"Throughout the week we will be providing handouts with information pertaining to hurricanes in addition to any other natural disaster that may affect Tyndall," said Airman 1st Class Daniel Muldowney, 325th CES Emergency Management education and training apprentice. "Emergency management personnel will be available to answer any questions regarding how Airmen and their families can protect themselves in the event of a storm."

Hurricanes pose one of the greatest threats to the base.

"History teaches that a lack of hurricane awareness and preparation are common threads among all major hurricane disasters," Airman Muldowney said. "By knowing your vulnerability and what actions you should take, you can reduce the effects of a hurricane."

Hurricane Preparedness Week provides emergency management the opportunity to reach a wide audience stressing the "Be Ready" approach.

The flight also holds classes open to all military, civilians, dependents and retirees at 8 a.m. the second and fourth Wednesday each month in the Building 909 classroom. The building is across the parking lot from the base bowling alley.
