325th CS prepare Tyndall for AF network migration Published May 9, 2013 By Senior Airman Christopher Reel 325th Fighter Wing Public Affairs TYNDALL AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. -- In accordance with an Air Force-wide movement, Tyndall is expected to migrate into a standardized AF-wide network system this May. The migration to AFNET will consolidate Tyndall's unclassified network into the Air Force's single network structure, allowing central management of users and email. "Tyndall members will soon have the ability to log onto the network from any Air Force base and access their e-mail, calendar, tasks, files, SharePoint sites and many other applications and services just as if they were at their home station," said Tech. Sgt. Robert Barnes, 325th Communications Squadron NCO in charge at the Network Control Center. "The most visible change for Tyndall's network users will be the format of e-mail addresses. After the migration, Tyndall members will notice their e-mail has changed from first.last@tyndall.af.mil to an Air Force standardized email address, first.last@us.af.mil." Air Force members will now keep the same e-mail address throughout his or her career, regardless of deployment, temporary duty assignment or permanent change of station. "The migration will eliminate the need to de-activate and create accounts within the Air Force," said Staff Sgt. Arthur Heinrich, 325th CS communication and information project manager. "It will standardize the network, improving security and reduce costs by eliminating redundant systems and services. Tyndall personnel can assist with the migration by practicing good information management. "Tyndall members should reduce the size of their e-mail box and complete their information assurance training as soon as possible if it will expire during May or June." The 325th CS will be sending out AFNET eAdvisory e-mails and attachments which will contain more detailed information about the networking change. For additional AFNET migration questions, members should contact their Communications Focal Point at (850) 283-4896, option 2.
