Tyndall Airman earns Maintenance Staff Professional of the Year award

TYNDALL AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. --  Tyndall's Senior Airman Monica Sathern, 325th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron F-22 Raptor support journeyman, earned the Maintenance Staff Professional of the Year award in the Airman category during the 2012 Maintenance and Staff Professionals of the Year banquet in Hangar 1 March 15.

The Waterflow, N.M., native said it was an honor to receive the award. It is given to the Airman whose performance makes the most substantial contributions to the group's mission.

"I am honored to have won the award," said Airman Sathern. "Being a female in a male dominated career field made me more determined to go above and beyond the normal standards."

Airman Sathern has been in the Air Force for five years and has worked in the maintenance career field throughout her enlistment. Her favorite part about her job is working on the equipment.

"I love correcting errors on all the equipment I inspect," Airman Sathern said. "I inspect and restore equipment to 100 percent [capability] for flight line use."

The MPOY banquet recognizes the achievements of the maintenance group and honors maintenance professionals each year.

The original maintenance professional award was established in 1979 to recognize outstanding performance of direct, sortie-producing maintenance specialists. Support, training and staff personnel make vital contributions to effective sortie production. Tyndall recognizes these important professionals in their diversified career fields.
