Tyndall's Airman 1st Class William Trisch, 325th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron crew chief, earned the Lt. Gen. Leo Marquez Award in the Aircraft Maintenance Technician category during the 2012 Maintenance and Staff Professionals of the Year banquet in Hangar 1 March 15.

The Magnolia, Del., native said it was unbelievable to receive the award. The award recognizes individuals who enhanced maintenance readiness, improved efficiency, and reduced waste by encouraging excellence in all maintenance areas and is presented to the top munitions and aircraft maintenance technicians.

"To have all my co-workers, including supervision, cheering me and on and congratulating me was actually quite overwhelming," he said. "Without them, the award honestly would have been far-fetched. So, really my hat goes off to them for always being there, through thick and thin."

Airman Trisch has been in the Air Force for two years and has worked in the maintenance career field throughout his enlistment. His favorite part about his job is the people and the atmosphere.

"I guess you can say being a crew chief brings workers together when all you have at work is each other," said Airman Trisch. "Working on the world's most advanced stealth fighter is simply just a bonus."

The MPOY banquet recognizes the achievements of the maintenance group and honors maintenance professionals each year.

The original maintenance professional award was established in 1979 to recognize outstanding performance of direct, sortie-producing maintenance specialists. Support, training and staff personnel make vital contributions to effective sortie production. Tyndall recognized these important professionals in their diversified career fields.
