Tyndall Airman 1st Class Derek Adu, 325th Maintenance Operations Squadron, maintenance management analysis specialist, earned the Air Combat Command Analysis Maintenance Manager of the Year in the Airman category during the 2012 Maintenance and Staff Professionals of the Year banquet in Hangar 1 March 15.

The Brooklyn, N.Y. native said he felt appreciated to receive the award. The award recognizes exceptional performers in maintenance management.

"I feel like my hard work is appreciated," he said. "I'm motivated to continue to progress in my career."

Airman Adu has been in the Air Force for two years and has worked in the maintenance career field throughout his enlistment. His favorite part about his job is learning.

"I enjoy learning more every day about how to become a more proficient analyst," said Airman Adu.

The MPOY banquet recognizes the achievements of the maintenance group and honors maintenance professionals each year.

"It's a great award and shows his dedication through the year and the hard work he put into his on-duty and off-duty performance as well," said Master Sgt. Herby Black, 325th MOS maintenance operations flight superintendent.

The original maintenance professional award was established in 1979 to recognize outstanding performance of direct, sortie-producing maintenance specialists. Support, training and staff personnel make vital contributions to effective sortie production. Tyndall recognizes these important professionals in their diversified career fields.
