Master Sgt. John D. McAvoy, 325th Maintenance Squadron precision guided munitions NCO in charge, earned the Air Combat Command Outstanding Munitions Award and the Lt. Gen. Leo Marquez Award during the 2012 Maintenance and Staff Professionals of the Year banquet in Hangar 1 March 15.

The Vass, N.C., native said it felt outstanding to receive these awards. The ACC Outstanding Munitions Award recognizes individual excellence in munitions systems, and the Lt. Gen. Leo Marquez Award recognizes individuals who enhanced maintenance readiness, improved efficiency, and reduced waste by encouraging excellence in all maintenance areas.

"I share these awards with the 42 personnel in my element. Without their outstanding work ethic and dedication to what they do I could not have won these awards," Sergeant McAvoy said.

Sergeant McAvoy has been in the Air Force for 21 years and has worked in the maintenance career field throughout his enlistment. His favorite part about his job is training.

"Mentoring and training the younger Airman coming in today, and ensuring they know the traditions and history of the munitions career field," said Sergeant McAvoy.

The MPOY banquet recognizes the achievements of the maintenance group and honors maintenance professionals each year.

The original maintenance professional award was established in 1979 to recognize outstanding performance of direct, sortie-producing maintenance specialists. Support, training and staff personnel make vital contributions to effective sortie production. Tyndall recognized these important professionals in their diversified career fields.
