Tyndall Tech. Sgt. Robert Scruggs, 325th Maintenance Operations Squadron, lead F-119 engine instructor, NCO in charge, Instructors and Development, earned the Air Combat Command Maintenance Training Flight Instructor of the Year award during the 2012 Maintenance and Staff Professionals of the Year banquet in Hangar 1 March 15.

The Hamilton, Miss., native said it felt good to be recognized with an award. The award recognizes the efforts and contributions of the best instructor.

"It felt good to finally be recognized," he said. "This is the first award I've received since joining the Air Force."

Sergeant Scruggs has been in the Air Force for more than 10 years and has worked in the maintenance career field throughout his career, in F-15 Eagle and F-22 Raptor aircraft maintenance. His favorite part about his job is teaching.

"I enjoy teaching all of the newer Airmen who come through our classes along with teaching the more technical classes to NCOs," said Sergeant Scruggs. "Bottom line, I'm driven by giving our maintainers the tools they need to go out and put those aircraft in the air safely."

The MPOY banquet recognizes the achievements of the maintenance group and honors maintenance professionals each year.

"Sergeant Scruggs is simply an outstanding NCO and maintenance training instructor. His expertise and technical knowledge made him the clear choice to also be our NCO in charge of instructors," said Senior Master Sgt. Dale Goods, 325th MOS maintenance training flight superintendent. "Sergeant Scruggs works extremely hard each and every day and earning the Maintenance Training Flight Instructor of the Year Award is definitely proof of that. He is a tremendous asset to our Maintenance Training Flight and to our Air Force."

The original maintenance professional award was established in 1979 to recognize outstanding performance of direct, sortie-producing maintenance specialists. Support, training and staff personnel make vital contributions to effective sortie production. Tyndall recognizes these important professionals in their diversified career fields.
