Tyndall's Tech. Sgt. Terrance Townsend, 325th Maintenance Squadron assistant NCO in chargeĀ of conventional maintenance, earned the Air Combat Command Outstanding Munitions Supervisor Award during the 2012 Maintenance and Staff Professionals of the Year banquet in Hangar 1 March 15.

The Ocala, Fla., native said it was amazing to receive the award. It is given to recognize individual excellence in munitions systems.

"It felt amazing to win the award, especially receiving it in a forum with a lot of the people that I worked either with or for," said Sergeant Townsend. "I think it really solidified what I tell my Airman all the time 'to be the best you that you can be every day.'"

Sergeant Townsend has been in the Air Force for 11 years and has worked in the maintenance career field throughout his enlistment. His favorite part about his job is the opportunity to mentor young Airmen.

"At this point in my career, it is all about the Airman: teaching and taking care of them," he said. "I tell them that someday [they] will be sitting in my desk or in an office like mine and I want [them] to be fully prepared when that day comes."

The MPOY banquet recognizes the achievements of the maintenance group and honors maintenance professionals each year.

"He put forth a tremendous effort throughout the year, which reflected in the bullets on his award package," said Master Sgt. Kurt Tom, 325th Maintenance Squadron NCO in charge of conventional maintenance. "He filled admirably as NCOIC for a few months and took care of his airmen, who in turn took care of the mission."

The original maintenance professional award was established in 1979 to recognize outstanding performance of direct, sortie-producing maintenance specialists. Support, training and staff personnel make vital contributions to effective sortie production. Tyndall recognized these important professionals in their diversified career fields.
