Tyndall north gate scheduled to reopen Published March 4, 2013 By 2nd Lt. Andrea Valencia 325th Fighter Wing Public Affairs TYNDALL AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. -- Tyndall Gate, the main gate to the northern side of the base, is scheduled to reopen at 6 a.m. March 11. "The gate needed to be remodeled to meet Air Force Antiterrorism and Force Protection Requirements," said Staff Sgt Louis Vargas, 325th Civil Engineer Squadron construction representative. "Tyndall Gate was the only active gate at Tyndall that didn't have active final denial barriers." Construction on the gate began in April 2012, and the scope of the project included roadway repair and construction, replacement of security bollards, installation of FDB and support walls at Tyndall Drive and Alabama Avenue, and construction of a gate canopy. The traffic pattern for Alabama Avenue and Tyndall Drive has been modified, and in addition, a new access road, Stealth Way, was constructed south of the 325th Security Forces Squadron deployment building to connect Florida Avenue and Alabama Avenue. "Tyndall Drive will be limited to one-way traffic beyond the gate checkpoint, instead of the current two way traffic," said Sergeant Vargas. "Florida Avenue between Tyndall Drive and Stealth Way is also all one-way, which creates a large one-way loop." Exiting base will require the use of the new Stealth Way to Alabama Avenue, which maintains the same alignment to Tyndall Drive. Dixie Gate will permanently close March 11, and Louisiana North Gate will temporarily transition into 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. hours of operation. Louisiana Northern Gate will close permanently March 15, leaving Tyndall Gate as the only base entry control point on the northern side of base.
