Senior Airman Kenneth Barnett, 325th Maintenance Group aerospace propulsion journeyman, earned the 2012 Team Tyndall Annual Award for Airman of the Year during a ceremony at the Annual Awards Banquet Feb. 20.

The Matthews, N.C. native was named among four other nominees.

"This is by far my biggest award, and it hasn't really sunk in. It took me a few minutes to process what happened when I heard my name called for the Team Tyndall Award," said Airman Barnett. "When I sat back down in my chair, I would look at the award every few minutes to make sure it actually happened."

Among his numerous accomplishments, Airman Barnett earned the squadron Lt. Gen. Leo Marquez Award, Distinguished Graduate at Airman Leadership School and his Community College of the Air Force degree after completing 18 credits. He also is a member of Habitat for Humanity and improved quality of life for two families.

"This has been the best year in my Air Force career. I have been so blessed with many opportunities and people that have helped along the way," Airman Barnett said.

His supervisor was not surprised at all by Airman Barnett's win.

"[Airman] Barnett is a great troop and perfect example of what it takes to 'earn' a 5 in today's Air Force," said Tech. Sgt. Christopher Snyder, 325th Maintenance Squadron propulsion training monitor. "I am very proud of what he has accomplished this year and being at the ceremony to shake his hand after he was named Team Tyndall's Airman of the Year was an amazing feeling."
