Master Sgt. Toby Spraberry, 53rd Weapons Evaluation Group first sergeant, earned the 2012 Team Tyndall Annual Award for First Sergeant of the Year during a ceremony at the Annual Awards Banquet Feb. 20.

The Atlanta, Texas native was named for the award among four other nominees.

"I wasn't expecting to be named the winner and I was surprised by the outcome," Sergeant Spraberry said. "Being selected as the Team Tyndall First Sergeant of the Year is a distinct honor and privilege."

Among many achievements, Sergeant Spraberry is credited with being a supportive counselor, mediator, mentor and trainer. He led the group recognition and award program, created processes to improve dorm life for Airmen, supported the Weapons System Evaluation Program and is active in the community by chairing fundraisers and heading charity events.

"The First Sergeant of the Year award belongs to all of the Airmen that I have served during the past year," he said. "Without them, I wouldn't have the opportunity to go out and see what they do, how they contribute to our Air Force mission, and make my job as a first sergeant the most enjoyable and rewarding job ever."

Base Annual Award winners will go on to compete at the Air Combat Command level.
