Community police receive all-terrain vehicles

TYNDALL AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. -- Tyndall's 325th Security Forces Squadron community police recently added brand new, all-terrain vehicles to their inventory of equipment used for keeping Tyndall safe and secure.

"The ATVs will be used to conduct shoreline patrols and complete random anti-terrorism measures," said Tech. Sgt. Clint Wright, 325th SFS NCO in charge of community police. "We can also utilize them to traverse the woods and beaches when we can't get a patrol car through there."

The squadron purchased four, built-to-spec, desert tan Polaris MV 850s. The MV 850s are ultra-light, all-terrain vehicles. It has a four-stroke, twin-cylinder engine, 77-horsepower with a top speed of 52 mph, and a towing capacity of 1,500 pounds, according to Polaris' Website, www.polarisindustries.com. It also comes standard with military specific Black-Out drive and a fuel capacity of 11.75 gallons.

"The ATVs will provide us a greater capability to operate in austere environments, we're excited to add them to our mobile force" said Sergeant Wright. "We have greatly increased the ability to respond to incidents that might require off-road response, and we can also use them for any special events such as air shows."
