Tyndall hosted the annual tree lighting ceremony Dec. 5 at Flag Park.

A tradition that has been carried on for years, the lighting of the tree marks the beginning of the holiday season.

"The annual base tree lighting is a great way to kick off the holiday season," said Corey Coleman, 325th Force Support Squadron marketing director. "The event is a casual evening which gives Team Tyndall a few minutes to pause and welcome the holiday season."

Following Chaplain (Lt. Col.) Robert Ward's invocation, Col. David E. Graff, 325th Fighter Wing commander, and his daughter did the honors of lighting the holiday tree located near the front gate.

The Tyndall Youth Center Choir then led the audience in a round of holiday songs. The children sang "Jingle Bells," "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus," "Here Comes Santa Claus," and many more for the crowd.

Maj. Alexsa Billups, 325th Medical Group Mental Health flight commander, and her family attended the event for the first time.

"This is our first time coming," she said. "I enjoyed the music and seeing the kids' reaction when Santa comes out."

A fire truck with sirens on announced Santa Claus' arrival and children quickly lined up to sit on his lap and tell him what they wanted for Christmas, while all attendees enjoyed hot chocolate and cookies.
