Silver Flag hosts first Dusk Ruck and Run Published Oct. 23, 2012 By Staff Sgt. Rachelle Elsea 325th Fighter Wing Public Affairs TYNDALL AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. -- Silver Flag is scheduled to host the first Dusk Ruck and Run Oct. 27, open to Team Tyndall members and the surrounding community. "The purpose of the event is two-fold," said Capt. Brett Mazey, Detachment 1, 823rd RED HORSE chief of medical operations. "The first, to raise awareness and focus on current and future needs of our wounded services members and their families. Second, to promote and support philanthropy for this year's Combined Federal Campaign." All proceeds collected will go to the Wounded Warrior Project. The ruck and run will feature several events. "For a $25 donation, participants can choose to participate in one of three events," Captain Mazey said. "An 8-mile ruck march, 5K paved run, or a 10K trail run that transverses the austere expeditionary training at Silver Flag, with dozens of static displays. At the end of the event, there will be a haunted house, free for participants and $5 for spectators." Individuals can sign up the day of the event starting at 2 p.m. The Ruck March will start at 4 p.m., and the 5K and 10K will start at 5:30 p.m. All participants will receive a bag and t-shirt. Silver Flag is located 10 miles east of Tyndall. "Just follow the signs as you head to Mexico Beach," said Captain Mazey. "There will be free water and snacks for participants, along with food that maybe purchased during the haunted house." The haunted house hours will be 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.
