Tyndall's 325th Maintenance Squadron munitions flight is receiving a new facility Friday for non explosive materials storage.

"The need for a new storage facility is related to the plus up in people and equipment the base is going to receive with the arrival of the F-22 Raptor squadron," said Capt. Arne Gjere, 325th MXS munitions flight commander. "We're using these facilities to support the new mission."

The new facility will house war reserve materials, munitions trailers and the universal ammunition loading system, which is used to load munitions onto the F-22.

The 4,900 square foot pre engineered metal building will feature two roll up doors, driveway system for trailers, and a fire alarm and lightening protection systems.

MTNT Properties, Inc. began the $589,000 project April 16 and it is scheduled for completion Oct. 19.

MTNT project manager, Rich Reeves, said the five local sub-contractors created approximately 40 to 50 local jobs.

"Local subcontractors are preferable since they are familiar with the area and working on Tyndall," said Reeves. "Plus, their pricing is more competitive then companies out of town."

The majority of the materials for the project were also bought locally, adding to the Panhandle's industry growth.

The base was recently re-assigned to Air Combat Command, which requires adding additional aircraft, facilities and support personnel to the installation.
