Tyndall fitness center awarded Air Force Fitness and Sports Program of the Year Published Aug. 23, 2012 By Airman 1st Class Christopher Reel 325th Fighter Wing Public Affairs TYNDALL AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. -- The Tyndall Fitness Center received the Air Force-level 2011 Fitness and Sports Program of the Year award. The fitness center received an outstanding merit during the 2011 AETC Compliance Inspection. "Receiving this award shows that all the hard work and dedication the staff provided to our customers did not go unnoticed," said Mr. Lou South, 325th Force Support Squadron Fitness Center director. The 'green' fitness center saved approximately $30,000 in utility costs and was also awarded the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Platinum award given by the U.S. Green Building Council. The ability to stay ahead of equipment maintenance resulted in 99.5 percent preservation rate for approximately 150 pieces of equipment worth more than $525,000. This is the highest preservation rate in seven years. Not only does the facility have a multitude of energy efficient and energy-saving qualities, the staff have performed numerous duties that have helped the fitness center be acknowledged. The fitness center's staff manages five athletic fields, three tennis courts, and more than 500,000 patrons annually. Additionally, the fitness center has executed four varsity and 10 intramural sports programs. "Knowing that all the hard work and dedication put into our programs did not go unnoticed is extremely rewarding," added Mr. South. "Lou South and his fitness center staff truly are the best in the Air Force!" said Lt. Col. Kyle Head, 325th Force Support Squadron commander. "I couldn't be more proud of their accomplishments and the quality service they provide Team Tyndall daily."
