Staff Sergeant Thompson, 325th Maintenance Squadron precision guided munitions crew chief was recently awarded the Air Dominance Division's 2011 Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missile Outstanding Performer of the Year Award.

Sergeant Thompson is a native of Huntington, Ind. He attributes his win to knowing his job.

"It is all about doing your job and doing it right," said Sergeant Thompson. "It always feels good to be rewarded for the work you do and it gives the Airmen that work for you something to strive for."

Sergeant Thompson has been enlisted for eight and a half years.

"I joined for the job security and to provide for my family," he said.

Tyndall is also his first duty station.

"The best part of being at Tyndall is the opportunities the job provides," Sergeant Thompson said. "We work directly with the manufacturer on numerous things and even write technical data the rest of Ammo uses on a daily basis."

He said there is never a dull moment.

"If you get bored in the PGM shop it means you are in weather hold," said Sergeant Thompson. "We prep for a WSEP (Weapons System Evaluation Program) and then support the WSEP. As soon as one ends we are prepping for the next, it is a never-ending cycle."

Sergeant Thompson is a well respected asset in his shop.

"Sergeant Thompson is one of the hardest working NCOs I've ever had the pleasure of working with," said Tech. Sgt. Aric Jones, 325th MXS NCO in charge of PGM. "It's always great to see someone so deserving bring an award like this home."
