Tyndall ESOHCAMP healthy

TYNDALL AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. --  Today Tyndall completed a five-day external Environmental, Safety and Occupational Health Compliance Assessment Management Program Inspection with glowing results.

"The inspection occurs every three years externally and every year internally," said Mr. Teddy James, Headquarters Air Education and Training Command ESOHCAMP action officer.

The external inspection hosts a team of six personnel from the Major Command level. Of the 13 bases the MAJCOM team is responsible for, Mr. James recognized Tyndall as above average.

The team also highlighted ten positive sightings which also exceeds the norm.

"The inspection has three functions," said Mr. James. "We are looking for regulatory compliance, we are looking for the conformance of how Tyndall says they will conduct business, and finally, we are looking to give enhancement sustainment opportunities."

The ESOHCAMP inspection is used throughout the whole Department of Defense. The Tyndall inspection covered 115 base facility visits, 836 document reviews and 157 personnel interviews.

"We interviewed a number of Tyndall personnel," said Mr. James. "The keynote there is that of the individuals interviewed, approximately 93 percent were aware of their ESOHCAMP responsibilities throughout the base. Throughout the command this figure is usually around the 89 to 90 percent mark."

During the outbrief, Army Col. John Lamoreux, 502 Mission Support Group commander, Joint Base San Antonio, Texas, and the ESOCHCAMP command representative, acknowledged and awarded four outstanding performers: Mr. Greg Hilty, 325th Civil Engineer Squadron electronic technician, Mr. Edwin Wallace, 325th CES solid waste and recycling, hazardous materials program manager, Capt. Tom Gormley, 325th Aerospace Medicine Squadron occupational and environmental health element chief, and the Cultural Resource Team, 325th CES.

"You have done a tremendous job of moving light years ahead of where you were three years ago," said Colonel Lamoreux. "From all of us on the team, I commend you for all your efforts. They have really paid off. You all have done very well and it's a testament to all the hard work you put into it."

Also a fan of the results was Brig. Gen. John McMullen, 325th Fighter Wing commander.

"I want to thank those who were recognized as outstanding performers," said General McMullen. "You are setting the example. I also want to thank anyone who took part in the inspection. Thanks for the attention to detail, the time it took to make sure we dotted the I's and crossed the t's, and for doing things right everyday."
