Tyndall helps with Box Tops program Published March 7, 2012 By Airman 1st Class Christopher Reel 325th Fighter Wing Public Affairs TYNDALL AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. -- The Tyndall Community is encouraged to donate box tops to help Tyndall Elementary raise money through the Box Tops for Education project. Silver Flag Exercise Site and Army and Air Force Exchange Service have teamed together to raise money for Tyndall Elementary school. Box Tops for Education is a fundraising program designed by the General Mills Corporation to assist schools nationwide with fundraising efforts. America's schools have earned more than $320 million from the program since 1996. The box tops can be found on an array of grocery and household products. An individual just has to cut out the top, which reads 'Box Tops for Education' and drop them in the Box Tops stand in the Base Exchange entrance. Each box top earns the school ten cents toward supplies. "We hit our $5,000 goal," said Jennifer Phillips, Tyndall Elementary Parent-Teacher Organization member. "This money raised from the box top program will help Tyndall Elementary support teacher requests for materials and supplies." Box tops collected at the stand at the Base Exchange and on the Silver Flag site totaled approximately 5,580 box tops, a total of $558. "It's a great thing to see a goal accomplished successfully for a great cause," said Staff Sgt. David Kressler, Det 1 823rd RED HORSE Squadron electrical contingency instructor. "This year, 5,580 for a total of $558 was dropped off Feb. 28 at Tyndall Elementary. We exceeded 2011's contributions by almost 100 box tops." "It is the first time EVER that Tyndall has ever hit over $5,000!" added Phillips. "We would like to especially thank REDHORSE for their collection of box tops for our school."
