Tyndall offers complementary tax services Published Jan. 10, 2012 By Senior Airman Rachelle Elsea 325th Fighter Wing Public Affairs TYNDALL AIR FORCE BASE -- The 325th Fighter Wing Legal office will begin offering complementary tax preparation services Jan. 26 as part of an annual effort to assist Airmen with filing taxes. "Tax season is upon us," said Capt. Ian Duggan, 325th FW judge advocate. "On January 26th, W-2s are available to active duty and the tax center will begin limited operations for Airmen and lieutenants only." The tax center will officially open Feb. 1 for all other active-duty members and their dependents. "Folks who file electronically can expect to see returns as quick as four days," said Captain Duggan. "All of our volunteers undergo extensive training and every tax return is reviewed by supervisors and legal staff. Members are cautioned to remember that there are many questionable tax preparation services in the local community--as an alternative, Tyndall offers this great tax preparation center." The tax center is located in Bldg. 662, Suite 110 (adjoining the Tyndall Legal Office) with scheduled hours of operation from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday through Friday. Personnel wanting to utilize the tax center must schedule an appointment by calling (850) 283-1TAX or 283-4681. "We are also excited to offer independent tax preparation computer terminals at several units this year," said Captain Duggan. "It's a big advantage and we're working on getting them set up at several different sites on base. Information will be forthcoming." The base services will not be offered to anyone outside the active duty realm, but other options are available. "While in years past we have assisted local retirees with tax return preparation, with budget constraints, this year we plan to only offer assistance to active-duty members and their dependents," said Captain Duggan. "Thankfully, as an alternative for local retirees, there are three other Volunteer Income Tax Assistance sites nearby: two in Panama City and one in Panama City Beach." For AARP-Sponsored Free Tax Preparation Assistance retirees can visit the Bay County Fair Grounds Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. on the corner of 15th St. and Sherman Ave. in Panama City.
