Balfour Beatty Communities, Tyndall Community Police and Base Partners held the Annual National Night Out event Aug. 2 on base to raise awareness about crime prevention at Tyndall.

More than 350 residents came out to offer their support and participate in the events. The 28th annual event is celebrated across the nation to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness.

"Tyndall joined the national event to build community, cooperation and strengthen friendships," said Maj. Michael Bernatt, 325th Security Forces Squadron Provost Marshal. "We wanted to get information out of what Tyndall police could do to help the community with its various programs."

Along with a parade led by the Tyndall Honor Guard, attendees were able to visit with fire department and law enforcement individuals, both military and civilian. Activities such as face painting, sack races and games were available as well as a chance to ride the Bay County Sheriff's Segway and controlling the Explosive Ordnance Device robot.

Brigadier Gen. James S. Browne, 325th Fighter Wing commander, and Col. William Grund, 325th Mission Support group commander, took a moment to thank the crowd for their participation in the event.

"It was a great way for law enforcement to interact with the community," Major Bernatt said.  "We were very pleased with the turnout and the communities participation."
