Balfour Beatty Communities Foundation announced the winner of the academic scholarship May 23.

James Daniel McIntosh Jr., was awarded a $2,500 scholarship for the 2011 to 2012 academic year.

"We are extremely proud of James," said Teri Henry, community manager for Balfour Beatty Communities. "We are so pleased that a resident from our community was one of the applicants chosen and that we played a small part in helping James reach his educational goal."

McIntosh was one of 23 students awarded a scholarship from 43 installations that Balfour Beatty Communities serve. The Foundation noted that it was his exceptional credentials and well written essay that led to the Foundation's board to select him as a deserving recipient for the up-coming academic year.

Balfour Beatty Communities Foundation exists to provide financial support to the children of military families who reside in one of its communities in the form of scholarships that promote the pursuit of education on an annual basis. The other goals of this 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization includes the establishment of places for communal gathering and reflection on the unselfish contributions military members make for us and our nation, and assistance to returning service members requiring specially-adapted homes or services.
