Tyndall honors spouses on Military Spouse Appreciation Day Published May 6, 2011 By Airman 1st Class Christopher Reel 325th Fighter Wing Public Affairs TYNDALL AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. -- The 325th Fighter Wing Airman and Family Readiness Center hosted activities to honor military spouses for Military Spouse Appreciation Day May 6. President Barack Obama released a proclamation May 5, 2011 declaring May 6 as Military Spouse Appreciation Day. "Our service members and their families seldom ask for support or recognition," said President Obama. "They carry out their duties to family and country with the quiet courage and strength that has always exemplified the American spirit. On Military Spouse Appreciation Day, we have an opportunity to not only honor the husbands and wives of our service members, but also thank them by actively expressing our gratitude in both word and deed." The A&FRC hosted activities for spouses here. "More than 40 people attended the event," said Rebecca Mroczkowski, A&FRC community readiness technician. "Agencies on base and in the local community set up booths at the event. This was an opportunity for spouses to see what is on base and what this base has to offer to them." "Spouses also had opportunities to win prizes donated by local businesses," she added. Army and Air Force Exchange Service, Larry's Subs, and Captain Anderson's were just a few local businesses that donated gift cards and baskets as prizes for the event. "Events like these help build morale," said Michelle Tufano, A&FRC community readiness consultant. "Even when their spouses are away from home, husbands and wives still have their Air Force family for support." First Lady Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden have been working together to bring to Americans' attention the unique challenges military families manage. Last month they launched 'Joining Forces', a national campaign to support service members and their families. "It is through our actions that we show our commitment to our service members and their spouses," President Obama said. "By embracing military families, we demonstrate our partnership in the defense of our freedom and the security of the United States."
