Staff Sgt. Daniel M. Jernstedt, 325th Civil Engineer Squadron noncommissioned officer in charge of emergency management operations, earned the award which recognizes superior examples of how units and individuals are fulfilling our readiness responsibility. Sergeant Jernstedt develops and orchestrates Tyndall's Emergency Management Staff Assistance Visit program. He coordinates all Tyndall EM program support efforts with 42 unit EM representatives. Sergeant Jernstedt also responds to chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and high-yield explosives incidents, as well as instructing CBRNE courses. "It's good to know that your leadership notices the hard work you put forth, day in and day out," said Sergeant Jernstedt. His supervisor, Master Sgt. Mozelle Gibson, 325th CES superintendent of readiness and emergency management, and Mr. Marty Spikes, flight chief for the Readiness and Emergency Management Flight, nominated him for the award in mid-October 2010. "To be nominated for such an award one must be able to be the best of emergency managers," said Sergeant Gibson. "Sergeant Jernstedt performs well above his pay grade, works well with his peers, and exercises strategic emergency maneuvers." "My advice to Airmen is to do your job as best you can and never be scared to get outside of your comfort zone," Sergeant Jernstedt added. "The only way to get better at the things you are not good at is to try and try again." Sergeant Jernstedt will now compete at the Air Force-level competition.
