The event is open to individuals with a valid DoD-issued ID card, such as active duty, guard, reserve, retirees, civil service and dependents. "The purpose of the open house is to give individuals information on numerous education opportunities," said Mr. Mark Rix, 325th Force Support Squadron chief of education and training section. "There will be school representatives and education counselors available to provide individuals information on education programs and services and help them to better understand how the different programs and services can benefit them. It also enables individuals the opportunity to discover the schools' location on base and which programs are available for each." Some of the programs and services that are highlighted are the Community College of the Air Force, GI Bill, Commissioning, general education mobile, Air University Associate to Baccalaureate Cooperative, My Career Advancement Account and more, Mr. Rix added. The event also features several incentives. "Gulf Coast Community College is giving away a $500 scholarship to a military spouse," said Mrs. Peggy Martin, GCCC director of military affairs. "The active duty members have a large amount of assistance so we wanted to help with at least one spouse." The spouses can fill out a slip when they arrive at the event and a name is drawn towards the end, said Mrs. Martin. "For anyone that signs an intake sheet and applies to Embry Riddle Aeronautical University, their 'new student' $50.00 application fee will be waved," said Mrs. Tina Provo, ERAU director of academics support. "We are also giving away door prizes." Troy University gives away door prizes. Along with the abundance of information and countless give-aways, the education center offers complimentary beverages during the open house. "I'm hoping for a large turnout," said Mr. Rix. "Last year, we had around 100 people attend."
