Cookie donations needed Published Dec. 2, 2010 By Airman 1st Class Christopher Reel 325th Fighter Wing Public Affairs TYNDALL AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. -- The Tyndall Officer Spouses Club and the Tyndall Enlisted Spouses Club are teaming together for operation Cookie Caper Dec. 6 at the base commissary. Cookie Caper is an annual program designed to make the holiday season a little brighter for the Airmen living in the dorms who may not have family close by. TOSC and TESC spend a couple hours bagging cookies and then distribute them to Airmen living in the dorms. This is a base-wide program that is coordinated by Mrs. Alison Browne, the Tyndall first sergeants and the TOSC. This year Deer Point Elementary students are also donating cards for Airmen staying in the dorms for Christmas. "Every year the Tyndall community donates and collects thousands of cookies for Airmen staying in the dorms during Christmas and those working at the gates on Christmas and Christmas Eve," said Mrs. Sarah Folks, president of the TOSC. Making enough bags of cookies for all dorm residents is not an easy task. Volunteers from all over Tyndall can donate. "The goal for the year's annual Cookie Caper is to collect, package and distribute nearly 414 dozen cookies," said Mrs. Folks. "We accept both homemade and store-bought cookie donations," said Mrs. Olivia Percle, vice president of TOSC. "So if anyone would like donate, stop by." From 6:30 to 8:30 a.m., the members of TOSC and TESC will meet behind the commissary to receive cookie donations and place them in bags. Volunteers will spend more than 100 hours baking cookies and 18 members from both clubs are expected to bag and assort cookies for nearly six hours Monday. "After the donations have been collected, we will sort the cookies into bags for each Airman so that they will receive a variety of types of cookies," said Mrs. Folks. "This is a wonderful way to spread holiday cheer and support Team Tyndall." "The first sergeants will deliver the cookies to dorm rooms once they've been bagged," said Mrs. Folks.
