Nearly 200 of Team Tyndall's dorm residents participated in a mass dorm cleanup event Nov. 12.

The day began with a short speech from the 325th Fighter Wing Command Chief, Chief Master Sgt. Jackie Green. In Chief Green's briefing he conveyed the event as a way for residents to show pride in where they live.

He also encouraged Airmen to be enthusiastic about this event because it was in no way punitive.

After the briefing the Airmen broke up into groups and went back to their respected dorms of residency, where they swept the stairwells, cleaned windows, laundry rooms and smoke pits, freshened up the day rooms, and picked up cigarette butts and trash around the dorm buildings.

Airman 1st Class Mandy Billingsley, 325th Operations Support Squadron air traffic controller, felt that the dorm cleanup was necessary and beneficial.

Like minded, Airman 1st Class Britany Pousson, 325th Fighter Wing Command Post emergency action controller, thought that the dorm clean up was a great idea and an extreme morale booster.

"It is encouraging to see that it is not just the Airmen helping," said Airman Pousson. "There are also several first sergeants and supervisors."

Master Sgt. David Cole, 325th Communications Squadron first sergeant, described the dorm cleanup as a camaraderie building event, and as a supervisor, he enjoyed coming out and seeing the Airmen work together. He also recommended Airmen police each other not to litter, use the designated smoking areas and properly dispose of cigarettes.

After the dorm clean up, Airmen celebrated with a pizza party at Horizons Community Center. The party featured a free raffle, disc jockey and a Pie-in-the-Face fundraising contest, hosted by the Dorm Council.

After an hour of voting, the top three First Sergeants with the most votes were "pied." Master Sgt. Michael Hair, 325th Maintenance Squadron first sergeant, received the most votes. Master Sgt. Walter Fortenberry, 325th Air Control Squadron first sergeant, followed behind in second, with Sergeant Cole in third.

Team Tyndall leadership hopes to host the Dorm Cleanup event semi-annually.
