The new facility is located in the 6,000 block on the operational side. "The original center was an energy hog," said Gerry Spivey, 325th Civil Engineering Squadron Sabre Project Manager. "The new building has insulation, better lighting, air conditioning and is more energy efficient. We added fire protection and suppression." It also offers a larger administrative space, a break room and a shower. The recycling center is responsible for almost 2,000 tons of recycling a year. The base offers three drop off points, 1,100 recycling units in housing and recycling bins outside each office building. They collect cardboard, paper, plastic, aluminum cans and newsprint at each of these locations. They also accept batteries, used oil, scrap metal and wood at the facility. "Recycling keeps tons and tons of material out of landfills and keeps our base clean," said Bob Myers, 325th Force Support Squadron Director of Recycling. "If there is something that can be recycled and we can handle it, we will take it." For more information contact Bob Myers at (850) 283-2267 or E-mail him at robert.myers@tyndall.af.mil
