Tyndall Air Force Base's Airman and Family Readiness hosted Retiree Appreciation Day Nov. 14 at the 325th Medical Group clinic.

This Air-Force wide annual event has been celebrated at Tyndall for more than a decade.

A total of 260 retirees attended and 129 took advantage of the free flu shot.

The event showcased numerous booths from various medical operations, military personnel flight, base legal and finance, Survivor Benefit, Retiree Affairs office, Bay County Council on Aging, County Veteran's office, Census Bureau and Airman Family and Readiness.

"Retirees give back so much through the community and volunteering, as well as their time served in the Armed Forces," said David Brett, Deputy Director, Airman Family and Readiness. "This event shows our appreciation to them."

Mr. Brett, the event coordinator for Retiree Appreciation Day is no stranger to the retiree world. He spent 28 years in the Air Force and retired as a senior master sergeant.

Another key player was retired Chief Master Sgt. Duane Peters, who dedicated 30 years to the Air Force.

Since his retirement in 1990, he continues to volunteer through the Retiree Affairs Office.

"We are always looking for volunteers," said Mr. Peters. "Even if it is only for three or four hours a week, every little bit helps."
