Three members of the 325th Security Forces Squadron took part in the Panama City Police Department's Trot for Tots Saturday at the Panama City Marina.

The event was held to benefit less fortunate children during the holiday season. Participants were asked to pay an entry fee or donate a present.

Staff Sgt. Nathan Spradely, NCO in charge of confinement, 325th SFS, competed with more than 100 participants in the 10K, and won with a time of 38 minutes.

"I try to compete whenever there is a 5K, 10K or triathlon," said Sergeant Spradely. "I have been running for eight years. I started about a year and a half into my career."

While stationed at Hill Air Force Base, Utah, Sergeant Spradely was a part of the SWAT team. He said it was his motivation to get in shape and has loved it ever since.

He has since lost 40 pounds and runs six to eight miles daily.

He recently took part in the Girls Inc. half marathon and took 2nd place, as well as the annual 18-mile Dragon Tale Run.

"Running is something positive you can do for your body as far as taking care of yourself," said Sergeant Spradely. "In society people take better care of their cars than their bodies. You can buy another car but you cannot buy another body."

Sergeant Spradely said he looks forward to taking part in other events such as the Tyndall Turkey Trot and cancer walks.

"My goal with running is to stay in shape," said Sergeant Spradely. "I hope to run competitively at least until I am 70."
