Commissary employee wins DECA Award Published Nov. 4, 2009 By Airman 1st Class Veronica McMahon 325th Fighter Wing Public Affairs TYNDALL AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. -- A Team Tyndall commissary worker recently competed against Defense Commissary Agency employees world-wide and was appointed as DECA Equal Employment Opportunity Employee of the Year. Supong Davis, Tyndall Commissary customer service manager, has represented Tyndall in this annual competition twice, winning in two different categories. "I feel very honored," said Ms. Davis, "DECA has really been good to me in the 20 years I have been working at this commissary. I love this job, it is a colorful and diverse job, and the people are always appreciating me." The nomination first went to our Eastern Region headquarters for boarding and after her selection as the Eastern Region EEO Employee of the Year the package went to our headquarters, said Michael Yaksich, Tyndall Commissary manager and Ms. Davis' boss. At the headquarters level she competed against the Western and European Region winners the agency EEO Employee of the Year. The award is given to an employee who has made significant contributions to accomplishment of the EEO program goals and displays exceptional character that distinguishes the individual as an outstanding employee and role model within the agency. Mr. Yaksich accompanied Ms. Davis to receive her award at a ceremony at the DECA headquarters in Fort Lee, Virginia. She was nominated for EEO Employee Leader of the Year based upon her outstanding support and continuous positive interaction with the employees and patron at the Tyndall Commissary, said Mr. Yaksich. There are 18 thousand DECA employees worldwide, and Ms. Davis shined through in this category. "I see all different people while working here," said Ms. Davis, "from retirees, military and families with their children. I am very fortunate and lucky to work here."
