Fundraising restrictions during CFC Published Oct. 15, 2009 By Tanya Schiller 325th Fighter Wing Public Affairs TYNDALL AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. -- The Combined Federal Champaign has kicked off at Tyndall Air Force Base and will run until Nov. 15 with a goal of raising $210,000. The CFC is the world's largest and most successful annual workplace charity campaign and the only campaign authorized to solicit and collect contributions from federal employees in the workplace. With this in mind, base organizations are restricted during this period to the type of fundraising activities they can perform. "You're not really supposed to have any fundraisers during the CFC," said Capt. Cary Hawkins, 325th Fighter Wing Assistant Staff Judge Advocate. "There are some exceptions ... but for the most part, if you're going to do one, the proceeds have to go to the CFC." Air Force Instruction 36-310, Fundraising within the Air Force, is a good place to start for individuals who are interested in holding private or unofficial fundraisers during this time. "During most the year, unofficial fundraisers can be held either at or away from the workplace," said Capt. Matt Van Maasdam, 325th Fighter Wing Assistant Staff Judge Advocate. "During the CFC, however, these unofficial fundraisers cannot be held at the workplace." Another change during this period is that local organizations cannot solicit for outside organizations during the CFC. "A private organization could not hold a fundraiser for the Red Cross or the American Cancer Society, even though most people would agree that these are important and respectable causes," said Capt. Van Maasdam. Most importantly, Air Force personnel can officially endorse only the CFC and the Air Force Assistance Fund, according to the legal office. "In any other type of fundraising activity, Air Force personnel must ensure that they do not participate while in uniform or while on duty," said Capt. Van Maasdam. Individuals who are interested in holding a fundraiser, or who have questions regarding the rules and regulations, may stop by the base legal office or call at 283-8144. For questions concerning CFC, call the wing point of contacts: Capt. Edwin Jusino at 283-4274 or Master Sgt. Tanya Ericson at 283-2017.
