Members of the Tyndall Honor Guard gathered to ceremoniously raise the American flag May 27, at Tyndall Elementary School, to honor our country and celebrate the children's last day of school.

More than 700 children, ages three to 11, were present to watch the patriotic demonstration which began with a motorcycle ride through by the area's Patriot Guard and ended with a "hooray" for summer.

"The area's Patriot Guard and the Tyndall Honor Guard helped our students remember veterans and the value of freedoms we enjoy in the United States," said Susan Ross, Tyndall Elementary assistant principal. "The children got to share the Patriot Guard's motto: To honor, remember, respect; standing for those who stood for us."

Four members from the Tyndall Honor Guard demonstrated a flag-raising while the children engaged by saying the pledge of allegiance.

"It was good to see how excited the kids were to have the base honor guard there," said Airman 1st Class Irving Lewis, 325th Maintenance Squadron conventional maintenance crew member and Tyndall Honor Guard member. "It seemed like the children were very interested in what we do, and they were very respectful while honoring the flag. It was a great way to send them off into the summer."

After viewing the ceremony and listening to the principal's farewells, the children were able to meet the Patriot Guard riders and get a close-up look at their decorated motorcycles.
